My first shoot since January with friend and muse Karen, up in Glencoe. Didn't quite go according to plan, but still got some shots...

A London-based art model was on tour in Scotland in the first week of June, and advertised the afternoon of her final day as being free for interested photographers. It was a great casting call, since she said that she'd be very picky and if no-one offered her an appealing shoot she'd just visit a museum instead. Her profile also emphasized her interest in the art more than the money or glamour, which immediately intrigued me.

I suggested some waterscape nudes, as I've done several times previously, or if that didn't float her boat she could check out the Kelvingrove Art Gallery. Fortunately for me, it was appealing, and after some false starts we had a cracking few hours together.

In an effort to get myself out of a down mood (caused by a cancelled shoot), I contacted a new model on Purestorm and suggested some portraiture. From the first contact message to the last click of the shutter took less than 18 hours, so very much a "quickie".

I've done three shoots with Karen since I met her last summer, two waterscape nude sessions, and a wee homeshoot in January. I struggled to get more than a handful of good shots out of that last one, but what I did come away with was the start of an unexpected and very nice friendship.

In April, we had a day out on the Isle of Cumbrae, and I got a ton of great shots of Karen and her mutt Dexter.

Two recent shoots, one blah and one great, both involving longtime muse Roxy Stardust (first as a model in a pin-up shoot where my sub-par performance let her down, and then as my assistant in a latex shoot which went really well).

The other common theme was that they were studio shoots; my first. I've not normally been inclined towards what I feel is a slightly sterile photographic environment, but when you live in Scotland, location shooting's out of the question for half the year. And I shouldn't knock it until I try it, right? Anyway, I stumbled across Veverka, the studio premises used by a wedding and boudoir photographer in Blantyre. Looks like this will be my go-to facilities: good value, lots of space, and easy for me to get to (by car).

NB: my unhappiness at Roxy's shoot meant I was slow to process the images, so I haven't uploaded them here yet. I'll get around to it shortly, but until then, follow the blog links to Flickr if you're desperate.
